Let go of control and let the mark-making tool add interesting lines and texture! We’ll make our own mark-making tools from goodies found in nature and around the house, then make a concertina (accordion) book to chronicle the marks each one makes on a watercolor surface.
1. Identify items that might make interesting marks on watercolor.
2. Attach items, such as sticks, feathers, weeds and seed pods to a handle to facilitate easy handling. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
3. Use the tools to make prints or act like paintbrushes to make marks on watercolor paper.
4. Assemble marks into a concertina book to commemorate your experience.
